My name is Ivan Votipka.
Back in 2017, I moved to a country called Austria, where German is the main language. I moved with zero knowledge of German, thinking that English would work just fine. But from day one, I started experiencing very uncomfortable situations. I couldn’t communicate, ask for directions, or even start a conversation with my neighbor.
My new home was in a very small place, and not many people spoke English. This is when I started feeling isolated, like living in a bubble. I couldn’t express myself or even make simple phone calls, such as calling my doctor or making an appointment with customer service. Handling basic tasks like calling for internet problems became a challenge.
This was the moment I decided I needed to do something. However, I was never a fan of traditional learning methods that required spending a year in classes. I didn’t have time for that and wanted to integrate into society as soon as possible. So, I decided to learn German by myself.
