Ivan Votipka — founder of Lightspeed German Learning. Originally from Serbia. 7 years of coaching, 450+ professionals across Germany, Austria, Switzerland and beyond.

In 2017 I moved to Austria. At the beginning everything was fine. But month by month I felt how much German actually mattered, because I could not communicate properly. Not everyone spoke English and the ones who did were not always willing to switch for me.

The longer I stayed, the harder it got. Ordinary things became the problem: shopping, phone calls, sitting in front of a doctor and not being able to explain what was wrong. At the same time I had friends learning German the traditional way. Very smart guys, engineers, consultants, managers. I never once heard any of them actually speak it, even after months of classes. Some of them, years.

So I knew I did not want to do it that way and waste my time. I had also always wanted to build something of my own. So the idea was simple: build a system that would get me speaking first, and then use it to help other people too.
